Climb into the Fluence, and you could be in any other Renault. The dash is pretty much the same as you get in a Megane, so although some of the dash controls (specifically the stereo) are a little confusing, the design is attractive and the materials look quite appealing.

There are one or two new lights on the instrument panel to give you information on what's going on with the drive system, but Renault has resisted the temptation to use the swanky graphics and intricate displays that other manufacturers use to encourage you to drive more economically.

The driving position has lots of adjustment to help you get comfortable, and visibility is pretty good front and back. There's bags of space up front, and a decent amount in the back, so four adults will sit quite comfortably and you can cram five in if needs be.

The boot is a bit small, though, because most of it is taken up by the car's massive battery pack. The space is deep and wide, but not very long.
