Earlier this week, we reported that lorries will be banned from overtaking during the day on a stretch of the A14 in a bid to reduce congestion. We asked you which other roads would benefit from a similar ban. This is what you told us:
M1 - Junctions 20 - 23A
Jody Wyatt
M25 clockwise between J28 and J29.
Aidan Sayers
Ban them overtaking on any road with only two lanes - they are a pain!
Karl Blower
The A34 on all the hilly stretches north and south of Newbury.
Matt Henson
I would suggest banning trucks overtaking between the Chieveley junction and the Chilton Junction on the A34 in Oxon/Berks - it is ridiculous how much traffic is slowed up by them during the morning slog to work. The route goes over The Ridgeway and up and down some steep hills.
Dan Clifton-Climas
I'd like to nominate the A34 between the M3 and the M40. Trucks overtake on the uphill sections causing massive tailbacks. They also have the habit of forcing drivers to slow by indicating and pulling straight out regardless of the traffic flow!
Stephen Bradbury
The whole stretch of A14 after Stansted airport.
Frankie Cheng
Please get them to ban trucks overtaking on the M11 between J8 Stanstead and the A14 both ways.
Gary Pattenden
A34 between M4 and Didcot.
Sarah Matthews
East-bound on the A31 between Ringwood and where it joins the M27 (the New Forest section). Lorries overtaking create traffic carnage on this hilly dual carriageway during peak hours!
R ZTG Keenan
The M1 between Sheffield and Nottingham - probably on all of it!
Robert Buckland
Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes should be strictly limited to the inside lane (no overtaking allowed) of dual carriageways and motorways; not including coaches. They should also be subject to a strict speed limit of 50mph.
Jeff Hall
A127 and A13 routes in both directions.
Russel Godwin
It should be on the M25, M6, M1, M4, M3, M2 and every other motorway in the UK except for the M45, as nobody uses it anyway.
I just want to say that we have this rule on many motorways and dual carriageways here in Germany and it's really fantastic. It eases traffic flow, causes less aggression, and above all is very well policed.
It also stops fast-moving traffic hitting the back of slow-moving HGVs as they overtake going uphill. Maybe it will be a good use for all those cameras on the UK roads. For the HGV driver it's not always great when he's stuck behind another truck doing 40 mph, but overall it is accepted.
