Three quarters of whatcar.com readers are opposed to pay-per-mile road tolls, according to a new survey.
In a whatcar.com poll, only 8% thought the tolls were a good idea, and a further 16% thought they might be useful on congested roads.
However, that's a drop on a similar poll from 2006, where 98% of readers said they wouldn't back pay-per-mile road charging - although 48% of them said they thought road tolls would ease congestion.
Whatever public opinion is, it seems likely that some form of road pricing will happen around the middle of the next decade.
Transport secretary Ruth Kelly has said she wants to 'explore whether there was potential for national road pricing' as traffic is set to increase by 30%, according to the recent Eddington report.
