For Affordable, stylish and decent-handling coupé based on Alfa’s old 156 saloon. There's just about enough space for four and luggage for it to be considered a proper grand tourer

Against Not as composed as German rivals and the Alfa will shed its value quicker, too. Rear visibility is a pain in the neck – literally!

Alfa Romeo GT Coupe

A decent alternative to its German rivals. Avoid the thirsty 2.0-litre petrol and go for the more frugal 1.9-litre diesel. Basic Turismo trim is the best value for money

GT Our pick

Alfa Romeo GT Coupe 1.9 JTDm 16v 2dr

The best engine available with the GT - and this is our favourite trim level. Overall, that combination makes this the pick of the range.

Buyer's notes

Target Price team says:

The GT won’t hold its value particularly well, so don’t spend a lot when buying one. Avoid the thirsty petrol engines and go for the lowest-powered 1.9 diesel with 148bhp.

In a similar vein, it’s also best to stick with the entry-level Turismo trim – you’ll still get all the must-haves like climate control, alloy wheels and cruise control, but you’ll pay less than you will for Lusso and Q2 trims.

The GT has been around since 2004, so you’ll get a decent amount off the list price by haggling with your dealer. Try internet brokers for even bigger discounts.

All Alfas come with a three-year warranty (provided by the dealer you bought the car from), plus a three-year paintwork warranty. Cover is extended to eight years for any anti-perforation issues.
