The Alpina D5 is a highly desirable car, that much is obvious from the outset. It offers monstrous performance allied to useful economy in abundance, but…its exclusivity is very much a double-edged sword when it comes to resale time. Because the market still doesn’t know quite what to make of the Alpina badge, secondhand values tend not to be as strong as those of the factory cars. Having said that, so well rounded is the D5’s repertoire, and so few flaws does it contain, this could be the Alpina that confounds tradition and changes the market’s opinion. Either way, if you can afford this car there simply aren’t many other pitfalls to watch out for.
