For The A5 is everything an Audi coupe should be – classy, refined and desirable. Performance is strong, whichever engine you choose, and it never feels anything less than composed.
Against Even by coupe standards, rear leg and headroom is tight and it's not easy to get in and out. Not as sharp to drive as a BMW 3 Series Coupe.
Coupes don't come much classier than the Audi A5. It's more a grand tourer than an out-and-out sports car, but none the worse for that.
There’s no such thing as a bad Audi A5, but our favourite is the 3.0 TDI Quattro. In everyday driving it’s nearly as quick as the 4.2-litre V8, but far more economical.
The 2.7-litre is even more frugal, but doesn’t quite have the punch of the 3.0-litre. There’s not a lot wrong with the entry-level petrol version, either. With 178bhp, it doesn’t hang about, but delivers 42.8mpg on the combined cycle.
Whichever engine you go for, the dealer should be willing to offer a discount. Savings of over £1000 shouldn’t be out of the question. Resale values are strong, too, so expect to get back at least half of the original price in three years’ time.
The queue of willing buyers will be bigger if you choose wisely from the options' list. Leather upholstery and xenon headlights are standard, but a CD multichanger, cruise control and satellite navigation are desirable extras.
