Against Make the most of the engine's power and you'll burn unleaded at a frightening rate. This model doesn't hold its value as well as the diesels, either.

The soundtrack is addictive, but it's hard to build a rational case for this model. The V8 diesel gives even more pace and will be worth more when you come to sell it.

The Audi A8 is available with a wide range of powerful engines but, however you spec it, it will be expensive to buy or lease and suffer from heavy depreciation.
The pick of the range is the 3.0-litre V6 diesel with Audi's quattro four-wheel-drive system, but business users might be tempted to wait for the petrol-electric hybrid A8, which will go on sale in the UK in 2013. This will be able to run on electric power alone for a few miles, making short zero-emission journeys feasible, and helping to its low 147g/km CO2 emissions that bring low tax liabilities.
Every A8 comes with a long list of standard equipment, and Audi lets you personalise your car with a range of high-tech options, including night-vision assist, internet connectivity and all-LED headlights.
