For This engine provides strong performance and averages more than 50mpg. SE models come with lots of luxuries, including heated, electrically adjustable leather seats, satellite-navigation and front- and rear parking sensors.

Against It always feels like a big, heavy car, and the ride can be unsettled. The rear seats are best left to kids, too.

Buyer's notes

Target Price team says:

You have two trims to choose from on the BMW 6 Series Coupe, and we recommend SE. It comes with all the luxury toys you need and is significantly cheaper than M Sport.

Standard kit for both trims includes Drive Dynamic Control, which lets you alter the way the steering, accelerator and gearbox react at the flick of a switch.

You can also add options to personalise your car. Adaptive Drive adjusts the suspension according to your selected mode, and Integral Active Steering turns all four wheels for sharper responses. Both are pricey choices, though.

You choose between three engines: a 3.0-litre turbo petrol, which is badged 640i, a 4.4-litre twin-turbo petrol badged 650i and a 3.0-litre twin-turbo diesel badged 640d. All three drive through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
