Chevrolet Aveo buyers have four engines to choose from, two petrols and two diesels. Both the 1.2 and 1.4 petrol engines are short of low-down pull, but the smaller unit struggles more obviously with the weight of car. The 1.4 makes life a good bit easier, but because it’s only available with the posher trims, it costs a lot more.
Both versions of 1.3-litre diesel have more pull and pace, although both do feel a bit flat at low revs. Pace picks up well with harder revs, though, and the engine stays reasonably smooth, if not that quiet. The higher-powered diesel only comes in top-level trims, though.
Three trims are available, LS at the bottom of the range, LTZ at the top and LT (the pick of the range, with alloys, air-con and Bluetooth) sandwiched in between.
