For The Chevrolet Cruze Station Wagon (SW) is a roomy and practical estate car. The low prices and good warranty package are tempting, too.
Against The 1.6 petrol engine is gutless and noisy, plus the car isn’t particularly enjoyable or comfortable to drive.
The Chevrolet Cruze Station Wagon is worth considering as a practical, budget option. Just bear in mind that it’s not as rounded as key rivals.
The Cruze SW is cheaper than most rivals, and our favourite is the 1.7 diesel. It has decent pace and flexibility, plus by far the best fuel economy in the range. It does, however, cost thousands more than the petrol models.
Thing is, these are just too gutless to recommend, especially in a car that’ll often be used to carry heavy loads. Even when it’s just you on board, the 1.6 manual feels desperately flat unless you rev it to its limits, and the 1.8 automatic isn’t much better. There’s also a punchy 2.0 diesel, but it’s way too expensive.
