    My car

The best car we've ever owned.

Good stuff. Very comfy and the handling is great. Acceleration at 9 seconds to 60 does not sound fast but the constant power from the electric motors makes it feels much quicker. The quiet even a motorway speeds is un-believable, when the petrol generator is running the noice level is still exceptional. Even running on just petrol, if you drive with care, the car returns over 50mpg. No other car in my situation is as cheap to run, in 5000 miles we have used less than 29 gallons of petrol. In the warmer months we are getting about 45 miles on electic for the cost of about £1 and yet we still have the ability to drive the 300 miles to the inlaws. Free from congestion charge. Servicing costs are much lower about £100. Change the oil every 2 years and the brake pads almost never. The car has altered our driving styles for the better, to get the best mileage accelerate gently and slow down using the regen braking. We have gone days where the only time we use the brakes is to stop from 5mph to stand still.

Complaints. For the cost of the car the rear parcel shelf (or tea towel) is a joke. The scraping of the front spoiler over even small speed bumps takes some getting used to, it is designed to scrape so is not getting damaged but for a near silent car the noice is terrible. The rear screen could do with a wiper.

If you drive into the City, have a commute around 100 miles or 200 if you can charge at work the Volt is the cheape

    My car

After 1 year and 10,000 miles, I have just filled up the car with petrol. I currently run at 1100 mpg.

This is the ideal car for someone driving 30-40 miles each way to work, with the ability to charge at both locations.

This is a really comfortable car to drive...and coming from a Lexus RX400h, this is quite a statement to make. The silence is out of this world, as is the acceleration.

When looking for an electric car, the thought of running out of Petrol was always the biggest worry. This is non existent with the Volt...It's a great car.

    Negatives:

If forced to say something, I'd say that the motor is a little noisy when running on petrol (but this is no worse than any other car) and I hate it when I use petrol.

If you are looking for economy without losing performance, you'd be mad to look anywhere else.
