    My car

I recently bought a new Fiesta 1.25 82 Zetec 5dr and am really pleased with it, more so than I expected, having previously owned an old and expensive to run Merc. It looks great and has a really good build quality and feel for a car in this class and price range and has lots of really useful features, such as the heated windscreen and rear window and the cabin heats up really quickly on cold mornings. Having bought this car predominantly for practical and efficiency purposes I have been pleasantly surprised but I always look forward to driving it as it feels really solid and handles well. The petrol engine is great, really smooth and very quiet and the gear change is one of the smoothest I have experienced in any car. I have also been very impressed with the fuel economy too. Mine has the green arrow that tells you when to change up and this really works as I am getting 51/52 mpg consistently for a commute that combines a good mix of A roads, motorway and bypass in equal measures. I have found that by far the greatest factor that has led to this good mpg figure is driving style, anticipating hazards well ahead, thus avoiding unnecessary acceleration followed by unnecessary breaking and anticipating light changes, rolling up to red lights/roundabouts etc instead of lots of breaking to reduce speed. This also makes the journey much less stressful too. For a car in this class it really is great all round, and as I've found just as efficient as the official figures.

    My car

Took the new 1.25 Fiesta for a test-drive (amongst others) and must admit I was not particularly impressed. Our previous car was an 04 1.4 Fiesta Zetec which was great to drive, the new Fiesta has certainly lost some of the driveability that the previous model had. Steering was too light & provided poor feedback (not to the excellent standards of the previous model). Whilst the interior build was definitely an improvement on the older model some of the "chrome effect" plastics looked very cheap & tacky. We also test-drove the new Corsa & whilst I never thought I'd say this, we preferred it to the Ford !! In the end however we weren't too keen on either & happened to test-drive the new Suzuki Swift (1.5 GLX & Sport)...what a difference, by far the best drive of the 3 and very high equipment levels....needless to say we now own a Suzuki Swift Sport, brilliant car. Make sure you consider other offerings over the mainstream before spending your cash !!
