For This is as close as Ford has come so for to a hot version of the Fiesta and it’s a cracker thanks to firmer, sportier suspension and the willing 1.6-litre petrol engine.
Against The engine may be willing, but the performance remains lukewarm for a sporty hatch. It’s also pricier than most cars in the range and the ride is quite firm.
Looks the part and has the handling to match, but Ford needs to up the performance ante before this Fiesta will sit alongside the best hot hatches.
There's an almost bewildering range of engines to choose from in the Fiesta range, but for us the best of the lot is the more powerful 1.25-litre unit. It's pokey enough and reasonably priced.
Effectively, there are two types of Fiesta – a standard set-up with more compliant suspension and speed-sensitive steering, and the firmer Zetec S, which has consistently weightier steering. Either way, it’s superb, but we'd recommend the standard car.
Whichever model you choose, make sure you shop around, as there will always be good deals to be found. Ford's own website is a good place to start, as here you can find all the latest company offers, such as free equipment and low-rate finance.
