For The Kuga looks great, has strong and economical diesel engines, and strikes a good balance between comfort and control.

Against It's not especially practical, there's too much wind noise and prices are high. The 2.5-litre petrol engine is thirsty.

Ford's sporty SUV is fun to drive, but it's not as practical as most rivals. Zetec trim is the most sensible to buy.

Kuga Our pick

Ford Kuga Crossover 2.0 TDCi 140 Zetec 2WD 5dr

In almost every way, the 2WD Kuga is a better car than the 4WD version. Zetec trim gives you plenty of kit and is the cheapest model to buy, so this is our favourite model in the range.

Buyer's notes

Target Price team says:

The Kuga’s model range is a simple one. There are two diesels and one petrol engine, three trim levels and, on some versions, the choice of two- or four-wheel drive.

We favour the cheaper Zetec models, which are still well specified, and with two-wheel drive. They’re cheaper to buy and run, and better to drive, than the four-wheel-drive models, although naturally they don’t have the same overall versatility.

The range-topping high-performance petrol version is quick enough to shock some hot hatches away from the lights, but the diesel models are far more sensible buys.

Whichever Kuga you go for, remember to check Ford's website before you buy – there are almost always special offers to be had.
