Owned this truck for 3 years, generally it was a satisfactory vehicle; when new the ride was choppy, it improved as the rear springs wore in; the wildtrak sport bar looked the part however made the truck less practical its not load baring, same issue with the roll top - handy except over bed rails couldn't be used to tie down, also fitting the top meant losing two bed tie down eyes. The 3.0 TDCi engine was strong and cruised well at motorway speeds, don't expect more than 25mpg.

Biggest problem, gearbox - it jumped out of 1st, wish I lived with it rather than asking ford to repair it; after numerous trips to the dealer to fix the fault, 3rd gear began to cause problems, more trips, oil leaks (including contaminating the clutch plate), eventually fixed. Ignore the Ford literature which suggests they want to keep your business moving, yes after some prompting they'll offer a courtesy vehicle (you'll need to sort your own insurance) but a fiesta or focus does not replace a commercial vehicle capable of carrying 1T, towing 3T or traversing fields. The powder coated roof rails corroded; be aware accessories only covered by warranty for the 1st year - odd as this model is fitted with them at the factory, no option, buy a wildtrak that's what you get!

I've had a few fords, this one was the least reliable, and dealer service was not ideal; on the plus side the truck is a relative bargain...... may be you get what you pay for! If I buy another it won't be a wildtrak

    My car

this is the first time i own a pickup truck and ranger 3.0 auto live up to my expectations. as i am working in a farm and used to travel arround 500km weekly. this truck has give me a good fuel economy (32mpg) and very capable off road vehicle. for carrying a heavy load (as it is what pickup truck should do), i can tell you that ranger is better than the others. while other pickup lost its juice when it put to the maximum capacity, ranger gives a constant performance. the complaint i have about ranger is the bouncy suspensions when it is not loaded with heavy cargo and the size of that beast :) especially when going through a tight spot. in the highway, it is like a raging bull or like a runaway train it can beat toyota camry in reaching 180km/h..thats makes cars owner goes crazy to see a pickup on their tail at 160km/h. the dealer is so far very supportive (since i bought it cash) but still cannot match the service of toyota dealership yet!. the offroad performance could be better if i change the tire to the MT ones because with its high torque it is easly produce a wheel spin in a gravel let alone in a mud, if you are not careful with the accelerator pedal (since it is auto). but thats changing will effect the fuel economy of the pickup so much.. i love spending hours in the truck driver seats, the interior is very relaxing with a good front seats. the back seats however should be reserve for traveling less than 2 hours..

    My car

The new Ford Ranger is the pick of the current crop of pick-ups.

I've had a Toyota Hilux and more recently an Isuzu Rodeo and it's a cut above either.

I have no issues with reliability or quality and regularly get 35mpg.

As long as it's borne in mind that this is a commercial vehicle, I have no hesitation in recommending the new Ranger to anyone needing a pick-up.

    My car

I purchased this vehicle from new and regretted it ever since. The vehicle itself drives well and I've had no issues with the handling or brakes. The major issue is the truly terrible build quality and Fords woeful customer support. I've now owned the vehicle just 7 months and it been back for faults 8 times! Which include minor faults such as fuses blowing to new wheel bearings and non functioning reversing sensors. (not funny on such a large vehicle!!) My local garage Gowrings in Newbury have been useless with the vehicle going back multiple times for the same faults which were not fixed correctly. The finish of the vehicle also needs a note that if you take this car anywhere near the country side expect scratches through to the undercoat. The paint is so thin that if a smallest twig touches the paint, the resulting scratch shows the undercoat. I will be selling the Ranger as soon as I can swallow the horrific depreciation and will never be buying Ford again.
