Find A Car Review:

For The S-Max offers sharp handling and a comfortable ride. It also has a practical interior, and is refined and keenly priced.

Against Cheaper models miss some very desirable equipment, and the rear pair of seats are best suited to kids. The 2.5-litre engine is thirsty, too.

An MPV that requires little compromise. It looks the part, drives well and does what you want of it. Brilliant.

S-Max Our pick

Ford S-Max MPV 2.0 TDCi 140 Zetec 5dr

Out of all the S-Maxs on offer, this is the best. The engine provides strong, smooth power and reasonable running costs, while Zetec trim gives you all the kit you need at a reasonable price.

Buyer's notes

Target Price team says:

As you might only expect of a model that's designed to haul around a car-load of people, the S-Max is at its best with a diesel engine - in this case, the 2.0 TDCi 140. Zetec is the best trim, as it comes with useful extra kit over the basic models, including climate control and electric rear windows.

The S-Max is a very similar car to the Galaxy, but the two have quite different aims. While the Galaxy is a full-on MPV, with enough room for seven adults, the S-Max trades a little space for a sharper drive - oh, and a much cheaper price.
