For The CR-V has plenty of space, impressive build quality and is comfortable to drive. The 2.2-litre diesel engine offers strong performance with lower running costs than the equivalent petrol model. S-T trim adds sat-nav and Bluetooth to the Standard S model.

Against Off-road ability is limited and entry-level trim could do with more kit.

The CR-V has plenty of space and great versatility, and the diesel engine is reasonably economical. S-T trim is better equipped than the entry-level S model, but we’d opt for the SE instead, which is better still.

Buyer's notes

Target Price team says:

All the engines are smooth, but our favourite is the punchy 2.2-litre diesel. Buyers with no intention of venturing off road can stick with a front-wheel-drive 1.6-litre diesel or 2.0-litre petrol version (the 2.2-litre diesel is available only with four-wheel drive). Unless you’re driving on snow and ice, you’ll struggle to tell the difference between the front-wheel-drive car and the 4x4 models.

So long as you avoid the entry-level trim, comfort and safety equipment levels are good. We’d recommend an SE model, which comes with all the kit you need for a reasonable price.

Honda dealers always score highly in customer satisfaction surveys, but they’re very tight with their discounts. That said, CR-Vs are famed for their extremely strong resale values, so you should lose less money in depreciation than with many rivals.
