I've had the car from new and it is now 8 months old. I find the ride firm but I guess that is because to prevent roll around on bends for a tallish vehicle. The vehicle has been recalled for a fuel pump replacement, apparently due to a fire hazard, I was told. This was replaced by my local dealer the same day. Otherwise the vehicle has not given us any problems whatsoever. It's easy to drive and has loads of room and we are preparing to drive right across Europe to Istanbul this year. The looks of the vehicle is obviously not to every ones liking but we find it pleasing. What is distinctly noticeable is the inferior quality of the interior leather and the plastics, which is easily damaged and not a patch on say, Audi, BMW or Mercedes or even our Toyota, which we traded in.
I have had my Honda ctdi 2.2 Es for 3 years now under lease. I cannot speak highly enough of this car. Its roomy, as proved by two teenagers, a toddler and a dog that are carried in it regularly. Its a delight to drive, the all round vision is excellent. it was fantastic in the snow - i live in a very hilly town and whilst other cars were being abandoned at the bottom of each hill, my CRV didnt let me down or put me on edge once. It has made several trips to Cornwall and Devon and despite being fully packed to the rafters with people and luggage, we were all still comfortable the whole 5 hour journey.
I wouldnt hesitate to get another Honda CRV, i love everything about this car, even the squeaky clutch pedal that the dealership cannot manage to rectify - it just adds to its charm ! Love it !
I am about to purchase my 4th CR-V. Undecided whether to get petrol or diesel have read these reviews. I cannot for the life of me believe that some drivers, even so few, are unhappy with the CR-V. I drive as part of my job and my mileage varies between 15000 to 25000 per year. I have never replaced tyres prior to 32000 miles. This is my 10th year of CR-V ownership. I have never experienced any unreliability. Any teething problems have been resolved immediately by my wonderful dealer in Huddersfield. This car has always got me home in the snow (to the top of the Pennines). Let's face it, if you wanted a serious offroader, you wouldn't get this car. Nor would you get the comfort and the interior space which is far superior to any of its competitors in this price bracket. Those few complainants on this site need to reach deeper into their pockets for complete satisfaction. I suspect that they still wouldn't award 5 stars! In the meantime, I'll stick with my CR-V. I feel safe, comfortable, confident and stylish in it.
Nearly every review I read of the CRV favoured the CTDI over the VTEC, to the point that I only test drove the VTEC for the sake of completeness. I loved my diesel cars. But the petrol CRV is just so smooth. The diesel's excellent too, but to my utter surprise I found myself totally confused as to which one to buy. Our annual mileage isn't high enough anymore to warrant the extra for a diesel so I looked at both cars again, and ultimately went for the petrol. In our case, this meant a higher spec car for the same money i.e. EX vs ES trim.
My main concern about the petrol was that it would feel underpowered compared to the diesel. But I've since realised that this is just because I was used to diesels, and expected petrols to perform the same way. Having owned the petrol, and gotten used to its different nature, it has never been found wanting for power. Also, the VTEC is such a smooth engine, and with such a lovely sound when revved, that its an absolute pleasure to drive. I actually miss driving it when I haven't been in it for a few days! It has a kind of split personality- it will toodle quietly around town happily at lower revs, but when you bring the revs up to about 3000rpm and accelerate, it takes on a whole different character, with a lovely growl. It never sounds thrashy. Also with petrol no worries about DPF regeneration, turbos, dual mass flywheels, etc. The petrol is super reliable. If you're on the fence like I was, try them both. Honda make great engines.
