Having recently switched from a gas guzzling monster hulk of a Chrysler 300C the Insight is exactly what I was looking for.
Going from Yank Tank to Captain Planet has certainly saved me a bucket load of cash but the Insight is more than just a money saver, its well equipped, practical and fun to drive.
On some drives, its easy to match and even improve on Honda's book figure of 60 mpg by as much as another 10 mpg. Although realistically with combined driving you will get low to mid fifties.
The drive itself is smooth and quiet around town with very little road noise even at quicker speeds. I drive the car 99% of the time in ECON mode which lets face it, is the whole reason for buying one right?
Turn the ECON off and switch the Gearbox into Sport and the car is really fun to drive with the Paddle Shift. As expected, the engine can get a bit noisy if you rev it hard.
Inside the car is much improved in the newer revised MkII Insight which has far better interior trim all round from the seats to the general furnishings. The controls are excellent and everything is well laid out. The only option not worth considering is the Sat Nav which will set you back nearly 2k
The seating is comfortable on long journeys for four people but squeeze in five, and you wont want to travel too far. Boot space is good even though the battery packs are wedged in there.
If you are looking for a great practical family hybrid then try the Insight, Its better value than a Prius
I have just changed my old Fiat Croma 1.9L diesel automatic for my new Insight. Getting used to a hybrid is different especially as I drive on hand controls. Thus I got my vehicle through Motability For a start it's handling is sharp and precise. My dealer was first rate and the car is more than the review on here suggests. I love it, driven properly its a dream, nearly silent and so comfortable. This being the up dated model it takes in the bad Lincolnshire roads with ease and being Boston(Traffic Jam Central) the stop start technology means I'm not wasting fuel sat in traffic jams. After all not even J. Clarkson could get through Boston without swearing about the silly pointless traffic system. I'm just pleased my Insight saves me money.
I have owned a 1.4tsi petrol for 2 years, and am VERY satisfied. Get past the utilitarian looks, and it lives up to its name as the best small family…
Being a mum of two who has had 3 X5's the last being a very nice 40d M Sport, the decision to go to a smaller car was one which did fill me with dread…
