For The Getz is easy to drive, simply sips fuel and has low running costs. There is plenty of space inside for passengers and luggage, and it's well equipped, too
Against The handling is stodgy, while the trim looks a bit low-rent and the residual values are no better than average for the class
The Getz is a roomy, economical, generously equipped small car that's also pleasant to drive
The Getz was arguably Hyundai's first mainstream car to really appeal on anything other than sheer value for money. Even now, it's a decent package but we think it works best as a value-for-money proposition.
There's no need to spend the extra on the 1.4-litre engine; the 1.1 is fine for the type of use a Getz will be put to, and we think the basic GSI trim - which has air-con and electric windows - gives you enough equipment. For us, the best buy is the cheapest five-door model.
Like all Hyundais, the Getz has a five-year unlimited-mileage warranty, but for it to remain valid, body inspections must be carried out by an authorised Hyundai Dealer 12, 36 and 60 months after the first registration of the vehicle - and you have to pay for them.
I bought my very rare 1.6 CDX in January 2006 for…
