I have owned this car since Sept 2009 when I purchased it from new. The car has currently covered 24000 miles. I use the car as a tuition vehicle as I am a driving instructor. As a tuition car I have found it to be satisfactory. Good points are that you get a lot of car for the money. Air-con, ESP, electric windows, fully adjustable drivers seat, plenty of leg room. But there are a few negatives... Short drivers shins can touch panelling underneath steering column when seat brought right forward. Visibility is impaired over rear quarters of car due to high window line. All controls are very light clutch especially, perhaps too light. MPG varies considerably as to whether normally driving or teaching pupils. Overall average approx 40mpg. Since owing the car I have had two replacement clutches - pressure plate & bearing due to high pitch squeal when travelling slowly in reverse. This is what pupils do a lot when practising manoeuvres. Last clutch components replaced about 5,000 miles ago and high pitch squeal has returned all have been done under warranty. Also power steering cuts out when carrying out slow speed manoeuvring, e.g practising parallel parking. Something that would not happen when driven normally but highlighted with tuition car. There is a warning in handbook about heavy steering when driven at slow speed for any length of time. Dealer is aware of both clutch/steering issues. With these issues I have therefore decided to change my training c
we have just changed my wife 12 year old ford puma for a 1.2 i20 edition in white ..what a car .we love it its a ten plate but only has a few miles on the clock {its a pre reg} and we have saved thousands on a {new} one .we love hyundai i drive a 5 year old tucson and it still looks like new its done just 18k .my advice if you are thinking about a new small medium car then a 5 door i20 in the edition spec is more car than you will need .we test drove all the small cars .fiesta/corsa/fiat/etc but the i20 wins on everything i think its the only car in its section to come with ESP as standard .the car is loaded with kit inc half leather a good sound system its also very audi in its back lit dash .build quality is vey good and all the doors close with a firm deep thud .it stops as good as it gose to down to disc brakes all round ..somthing to look for when concerdering a new car ..is it safe ?? i would say yes with ESP/ traction /various braking extras /close fitting anti whiplash head restraints and the many air bags .its very good to drive it has a large boot {for this size of car} and comfy seats .i have back problems and i found it very comfy .we have found we get looks because the car look fantastic in white i stands out our road and everyone that has seen it loves it .age range from 17/70+..if you carnt run to an i20 maybe you would think about an i10 just as good to drive and even in basic spec its still a better buy than other brands .we payed only 7800 plus the old puma
I owned an i20 for 6 months, bought it from new. Poor fuel consumption figures. I averaged 40mpg mixed driving over 4,000 miles. No where near the 55mpg, as advertised by Hyundai. Suspension very stiff too, bumpy ride, especially over B roads. No power over 4,000 revs, engine seems to fade. Low front bumper clearance. Aircon also comes on automatically, every time you turn the heaters on. You then have to manually turn it off by pressing aircon button. Annoying, especially when you don't want to use the aircon. Very expensive Hyundai servicing for a budget vehicle. around £270 for second service, ouch! This was my first Hyunadi, prob be my last. Sold it after 6 months. Especially disappointed by firm ride & poor fuel consumption & expensive sericing.
I have owned the I20 1.2 petrol model for 6 weeks and am regreting the purchase. the car has all the bells and whistles but is very bad on the road it is like driving without any springs every blemish and there are many in our roads hammers through the car and seats making even the shortest journey most unpleasant. I shall get rid of it at the first oportunity be warned
