Infiniti G Series Saloon full 9 point review

  • Performance

    4 out of 5 stars

Review-OnRoad There's only one engine, a 316bhp 3.7-litre V6 petrol. You can mate the petrol engine to either a six-speed manual gearbox or a responsive seven-speed automatic, which includes a steering wheel-mounted gearshift. Either way, the engine makes the G37 a rapid compact exec.

  • Ride & Handling

    2 out of 5 stars

Review-OnRoad Lots of grip, reasonable feel through the steering wheel and a competent chassis allow for confident high-speed driving on twisty roads, although the Infiniti doesn’t feel as poised as a BMW 3 Series. Uneven surfaces can jiggle you about in your seat too much as well.

  • Refinement

    2 out of 5 stars

Review-OnRoad Wind noise isn’t a significant problem unless you’re driving really quickly, but road noise is a little too prevalent at most speeds. The V6 petrol engine is smooth and quiet when it’s not being pushed, but accelerate hard and it responds with a satisfying growl.

  • Buying & Owning

    1 out of 5 stars

Review-Ownership The V6 engine may sound great and accelerate quickly, but it only returns 26.7mpg (or 25.7mpg on AWD models) and its high CO2 output puts it in the highest company car tax band. Insurance is high – group 45 – and resale values are predicted to be below those of its German rivals.

  • Quality & Reliability

    2 out of 5 stars

Review-OnRoad Much of the cabin detailing is lifted from cheaper Nissans, and doesn’t feel terribly special for a car this expensive; some switches and plastics should be better. However, Infiniti has a very good reputation for reliability and customer satisfaction in the USA, so the G37 should prove tough and durable.

  • Safety & Security

    4 out of 5 stars

Review-Ownership A package of six airbags is found throughout the range, while a pop-up bonnet will minimise injuries to pedestrians. The car hasn’t been crash-tested yet, but active headrests aim to reduce whiplash injuries, and traction and stability controls are also fitted to every G37 saloon.

  • Behind The Wheel

    2 out of 5 stars

Review-Cabin There's a wide range of seat adjustment and the instruments move with the steering wheel to ensure a clear view at all times. However, the dashboard doesn't have the most intuitive layout, so it'll take some getting used to. The windscreen isn’t enormous, either, and over-the-shoulder visibility isn’t great.

  • Space & Practicality

    2 out of 5 stars

Review-Cabin Space in the front is good and there’s an acceptable amount of room in the back, although you might find it difficult to slide your feet under the front seats. The rear seats can also be reclined. The boot is also decidedly small for the class.

  • Equipment

    4 out of 5 stars

Review-Cabin Dual-zone climate control, cruise control, parking sensors, electric seat and steering wheel adjustment, and automatic headlights and wipers are standard in every model. All bar the entry-level cars get leather upholstery, while options include adaptive cruise control, as well as a ‘Multimedia Pack’ that brings DVD sat-nav, an improved Bose stereo and a rear parking camera.
