    My car

I bought mine in April, done 9000 miles so far, no faults.

Pluses: Well thought out design. Solid-feeling, tourquey engine. Averaging 36mpg. Easy cruising in 6th gear - 85mph at just 2000 rpm. The interior is simply laid out and comfortable Roomy enoough for me and the wife, two kids and dog.

Minuses Bongs and chimes are annoying, but easily silenced (10 mins with screwdriver) Can't turn off daytime lights (remove bulbs - 15 mins) I'd prefer all lights to turn off with the ignition. Handling a bit soggy. Could do with stiffer shocks?

Have done a few 200+ mile trips and it sails along comfortably at 80-85mph on motorway. I don't think the engine likes ticking over for long periods due to the DPF. Needs a thrashing now and then to keep it clear.

Bought it as a pick-up but put a canopy on after a couple of months. It made the ride smoother and provides loads of carrying space.

Basic maintenance is straight-forward. Inside and out, the plastics pop off easily if you need to access behind them.

So loving the D-Max so far, think I'll have it for a while.

    My car

All round brilliant cab. The cockpit is a great place to be, with all the creature comforts of a modern day suv (climate control, cruise control, bluetooth). The drivetrain feels bullet proof (same gearbox that is used in landcruiser 200 series), and the engine is superb with a potent power band. Very capable offroad, you can feel this car is built tough. Easily the best pick up on the market.

    My car

Picked up this pick up (forgive the pun) after test driving a few. Best MPG in class, best value for money in terms of equipment, 5 year warranty or 125,000 miles, Best Towing capacity 3.5 ton. Don't be fooled into thinking that you will be driving a sports car, the handling is adequate but you could loose the tail end if you get carried away. suspension feels "jittery" when unloaded and the high ratio 4 wheel drive system loses the plot when you do a full steering lock, the wheels starts to fight one another. The answer is to release the lock and rev it hard to get started. The first gear is really short and you can move this car at idle, this is great when you are towing heavy loads on inclines. The rest of the gears are well proportioned and the acceleration is fairly brisk! The truck is very settled at motorway speed, equipment is generous but the blue tooth is primitive. The cabin space is excellent and the back seats are not as upright as other trucks which allows for more comfort. Visibility is also great and despite the size you can park this truck with relative ease. MPG is great for a car of that size, looks are personal but this truck has road presence and looks very handsome. The dashboard is full of hard wearing plastics but everything is built to last. This vehicle is a workhorse which will go on for ever but it also offers an quirky alternative to families who want buck the 4x4 trend.

    My car

I bought two of these pick ups for our farm business to replace a Landrover Defender and an old Ford Ranger. I looked at all of the pick ups and went for these due to the warranty, towing capacity and claimed fuel economy. Unfortunately the fuel economy on both vehicles is shocking at 22-24mpg combined and towing is both uncomfortable and worrying if towing 2t+ and need to go up any hills. It doesn't matter what type of journey I do, the fuel consumption doesn't get above 25mpg. If you want to tow, buy a defender, if you want the comfort, economy and practicality of a pick up then buy a Toyota Hilux.
