For The V8 certainly gives impressive performance, with superb response and flexibility, while this trim comes with high-grade fittings and a Bowers and Wilkins stereo as standard.

Against In the current climate, it's no great surprise that this engine is available to special order only. It's not what you'd call frugal.

Target Price team says:

As you might expect of a former What Car? Car of the Year, there's not much to criticise about the XF. However, some may find the lack of smaller - and therefore cheaper to run - engines rather a disappointment. Of the engine range, the V6 and V8 petrol units are certainly impressive, but it's the punchy and refined diesels that are our favourites.

Prices for the range may look a little on the high side, but they're partly explained by the generous equipment list that means there's no need to buy anything dearer than the cheapest Luxury version.

There are a huge range of options available, including a rear-view camera and adaptive cruise control. You can also choose from a particularly wide selection of exterior colours and interior trim.
