For The 5.0-litre V8 engine drives through an automatic gearbox and gives strong performance, while the car blends the refinement of a GT with the reactions of a sports car.

Against It certainly doesn’t live up its 2+2 claims – the rear seats are best seen as extra luggage space – and it has high running costs to match its hefty price tag.

The standard XK offers sports car sharpness and pace, so we wouldn’t bother paying the hefty premium for the faster R model.

Buyer's notes

Target Price team says:

The Jaguar XK gets harder and faster as you move up the range. However, we reckon the entry-level model is the pick – it’s still fast, plus it handles beautifully and is significantly cheaper than the other versions.

If you want your XK to stand out even more, in addition to the usual range of Jaguar accessories, you can also choose from the Portfolio range, which includes items to improve the stereo as well as the way your car looks and drives.

Every XK comes with a three-year warranty and three-years’ roadside assistance. If your car can’t be repaired within four hours, Jaguar will pay for your onward travel or for you to stay in a hotel.
