For The diesel engine makes far more sense than the petrol financially. And, this is as lavish a specification as you can get on a diesel Grand Cherokee, with leather upholstery, sat-nav and a CD-multichanger.

Against Even the diesel version's economy isn't that impressive. And, while residuals on this diesel version are better than on the petrol model, they're still no match for a Land Rover Discovery's.

In theory, you can choose between petrol and diesel models in the Grand Cherokee, but the V8 petrol-engined version is so expensive to buy and run that it will be an irrelevance to most buyers. Instead, stick to the cheaper, more frugal diesel engine that still gives the big Jeep impressive pace.

Limited trim may be the most basic, but it's the pick of the bunch, as it comes with enough standard kit to make the dearer models seem irrelevant.

Naturally, this Jeep is truly impressive off-road, and buyers who want to make the most of their car's off-road abilities can take advantage of Skills Days - where they are taught off-road driving skills - or Jeep Trips, where they join a party to venture off-road.
