Buyer's notes

Target Price team says:

The first choice is which of the two diesel engines to go for. The 148bhp unit comes with a manual gearbox (an auto ’box is a cost option) and the option of two- or four-wheel drive, while the four-wheel-drive 188bhp model has an automatic 'box as standard.

We’d go for the lower-powered unit with four-wheel drive. The front-wheel-drive version is cheaper and more economical, but it’s still not as efficient as a BMW X3 and you lose the 4x4’s sensational off-road ability.

Even the entry-level S version is reasonably equipped, although the TD4 XS is the model we’d go for. It comes with climate control and a seven-inch colour touchscreen that improves interior functionality. Top-spec HSE and HSE Lux versions come with lavish kit, but have prices to match.
