The RX450 is an interesting vehicle. It certainly looks it - the looks grew on me over time, but it takes some getting used to.
The car drives well. The handling is sharp, even if the steering does lack the feel of an X5. Body roll is extremely well controlled also, meaning you can really hustle this thing along. Although grip runs out quicker than it should.
It doesn't ride as well as the old car though, which is a bit irritating. But it is fine on long motorway journeys. Didn't give me a bad back after driving from the Alps to Newcastle!
Performance is good too; I managed to hit (ahem) a limited top speed of 134mph on the french motorways, and 0-60 is dealt with comfortably under 8 seconds.
People have been moaning about the running costs. I can see their point, but the figures claimed by lexus are attainable. Just keep to the speed limits and you'll get more than a respectable mpg figure. Even 30 mpg is remarkably good for this type of car however. It certainly matches an X5 or Q7 diesel.
The interior is full quality plastics, but it is just too fidly and the aysmetric dash is not the most functional. The remote touch system is great once you get used to it, but it is too hard to get used to.
I like this car. It ticks all the boxes, but it just doesn't light the fire in my stomach that other cars do, and for that reason I can only give it 3 stars. Its just too dull.
Why has Lexus turned a very comfortable car into a very uncomfortable car? It’s a shame, I went to order one but lucky the sales guy let us try it overnight to make sure it would fit in our garage ok, which it did. So the problem is that if you’re a bit overweight you’ll no longer be comfortable, this due to the centre console and panels, the foot well appears smaller as my legs know rub the side of the new console after a short drive this became painful; the next issue is your arm has been raised due to centre console which now means it pushes shoulder up higher than it should be, which will give you a neck ache in about an hour.
I own a 400h which I love and is a very comfortable car; I’m so very disappointed that the replacement is so uncomfortable!
The sales guy said that all the manufactures are doing this; if that’s the case then I hope that my RX400h last’s 40 more years as I’ll never find a comfortable car. I’m I asking too much?
I have now done 10,000 miles in the car. Very nice to drive and comfortable. Power is not bad when required. Handling is OK for a biggish car. The boot space is relatively small considering the size of the car unless you put the back seats down. However, my one big complaint is that the overall fuel consumption is much much higher than you would expect given the data provided. I drive the car very softly and over the 10,000 miles I averaged 33.1mpg. On motorways if you go over 70 the mpg drops dramatically. Driving at a steady 80mph in Europe less than 26mpg was achieved. Lexus consistantly say you can get 43mpg - over a short distance at low speed or constistantly in the town you might get more but overall nothing like this is realistically achievable with the average mix of roads and traffic conditions even being driven very softly- Beware!
Just picked the car up several weeks ago and have done 1000 miles plus on a mixture of local and longer motorway journies, with one foray into the…
I've had the SDV6 XS for just over a week and cranked out a 100 miles per day since I've had it. I had a 2009 Disco 4 XS before that. Sadly I sold…
