For The performance makes a mockery of the car's size, the engine and gearbox are wonderfully smooth, and the rear chairs in this 62 model are like something out of an aeroplane.
Against There’s too much roll to allow rear occupants any peace, and sharp bumps could be better smothered. Running costs will be enormous, but if you can afford the car, that won't be a problem.
If you must have a Maybach 62, this is the one to have. The larger-engined version costs just too much. Better still, you could perhaps make do with a 57 and save tens of thousands.
This is a car that's all about extremes. The Maybach 62 is extremely expensive to buy and run, extremely quick and can come with pretty much anything you can think of. In fact, there are enough options (how about 24-carat gold-plated wheel rims?) to permit two million permutations of colour, trim and equipment, so chances are your Maybach will be unique.
If you want the ultimate in excess, go for the 62 version – and, let's be honest, when you're talking about a car this expensive, the extra it costs over the 57 is perfectly affordable. But, back in the real world, the most basic (although that's far from the most appropriate word) version of the Maybach gives you everything that's good about the car.
