For Like every diesel 6, this model has better residuals than the petrol equivalent, plus stronger low-down pull and better economy. TS models are well equipped, including cruise and climate controls.
Against It's the best part of £1000 dearer than the 1.8 petrol model, and that's a very high price to pay. To make matters worse, there's quite a premium for TS over S trim.
This model will certainly make sense for high-mileage business users - but it costs that little bit too much more than the 1.8-litre petrol car to recommend for private buyers.
The Mazda 6 is a very appealing family car choice. Although it's not quite as refined or classy as the class leaders, most versions are significantly cheaper, and few rivals can match it for style or long-term reliability.
We reckon the cheaper models are the pick of the range - they supply plenty of kit and power, but keep ownership costs incredibly low.
Venture higher up the range and you get plenty of kit, but you lose out on the 6's value-for-money appeal, and the 2.5-litre petrol engine has a bit of a thirst. Some of the interior trim is rather hard and plasticky, but this is a well-built car and our reliability and customer satisfaction surveys suggest that owners are a happy bunch and unlikely to be troubled by many reliability worries.
