For The Mazda 6 is great to drive, and low CO2 emissions make it a sound company car choice. It's well equipped, the cabin is spacious and the 6 looks good, too.

Against There are quieter family cars available, and while the interior trim looks good, some of the materials feel cheap to the touch.

Buyer's notes

Target Price team says:

The Mazda 6 is a very appealing family car choice. Although it's not quite as refined or classy as a Ford Mondeo, most versions are significantly cheaper, and few rivals can match the Mazda 6 for style or long-term reliability.

We reckon the cheaper models are the pick of the range - they supply plenty of kit and power, but keep ownership costs incredibly low.

Venture higher up the range and you get plenty of kit, but you lose out on the Mazda 6's value-for-money appeal, and the 2.5-litre petrol engine has a bit of a thirst.

Some of the interior trim is rather hard and plasticky, but this is a well-built car and our reliability and customer satisfaction surveys suggest that owners are a happy bunch and unlikely to be troubled by many reliability worries.
