For Mighty engine brings ludicrous power and torque to CL to create a monster. Wickedly fast with a soundtrack to match. The ultimate status CL.
Against Interior not much smarter than the CL500’s and even there it doesn’t feel special enough. Massive engine brings huge consumption and absolutely terrifying residual values.
Insanely fast performance flagship offers drag-strip pace in a cosseting, spacious and refined coupe. All that power corrupts, the CL’s chassis struggling to cope with 604 feisty AMG-bred horses.
Mercedes-Benz's massive coupe has long been the technological flagship model for the entire range. It comes brimming with the sort of technology that until recently would have been the stuff of sci-fi fantasists' dreams. You can talk to the sat-nav for guidance, be whisked down the motorway with radars monitoring the traffic and even have night vision.
There are four engines on offer, a twin-turbo 4.7-litre petrol V8, an AMG V8 (a twin-turbo 5.5) and a couple of rarely-sold(!) V12s. Only the mainstream V8 is available without special order, though.
AMG is responsible for the CL 63 AMG and CL 65 AMG offering quite staggering pace, but that's not to say the non-AMG models aren’t monstrously quick in their own right.
All are refined and comfortable, while space for passengers and luggage is vast. All in all, the CL is a fitting, if very expensive, flagship model from Mercedes.
