For The Mercedes SLS is a striking supercar with brutal performance and awesome grip. It's comfortable on all types of roads, and the V8 engine makes a glorious noise.
Against The interior is a bit of a letdown in terms of style and quality – it's not much more special than those of most other Mercs. The gullwing doors are a head-turning feature, but they're not practical.
AMG's first bespoke supercar is a winner – the Mercedes SLS is rapid, massively grippy, fantastic fun, yet easy to use. The interior could be better, but that doesn't detract from the drama of the car.
You'll have to hunt down an AMG specialist dealer to order your Mercedes SLS, and you'll have to be patient, too – there's a very, very long waiting list.
Options are limited to lightweight forged alloy wheels, ceramic composite brakes, stiffer suspension, a Bang & Olufsen stereo and four-way lumbar supports for the seats. You can also opt for either a fancy Alubeam Silver paint finish that's supposed to look like liquid, or a classy matt paint finish.
Don't expect any discounts, though.
