I acquired this as a company car and initially was somewhat apprehensive, partly due to its auto box. However, driving in London, the auto makes total sense. It's a great box, with paddleshifts and six gears, and my only gripe is that there is a lag in uptake from a standing start. You soon get used to it and tune it out, but it is initially annoying when trying to get that all-important gap in stop-start traffic!
The build quality inside is great, and it has got some wonderfully thought-out touches, including the retro toggle switches for the interior lights, windows, locking and fog lights. The speedometer is an annoyance - being so big, you cannot actually read your speed clearly. Therefore the speed is permanently up on the multifunction display in the rev counter - useful but still, a speedometer that big would be better being legible!
The car has some useful additions too, from the AUX-IN socket for listening to your iPod or MP3 player of choice, to the rear seat catches that let you put the backrest vertical to increase boot space - very useful and quicker than folding down the rear seats! You get a lot more in the boot and still the privacy - although there is a gap between the parcel shelf and the seatback in this case.
Mini have done a superb job on the road, the handling is great. It's comfortable, soaks up bumps with aplomb, yet handles like a go-kart, is nippy and darty.
Overall, Mini have made a fantastic 21st century version of the original.
Have had my Mini One 1.6 for about two months now and still loving every minute of it!
It's incredibly well built, fun to drive and pretty nippy for the entry spec model in the range!
I would recommend going for the pepper pack as it really improves the appearance of the outside of the car - adding the chrome inserts to the grill and boot grab handle. I also de-badged mine so there's no way you'd know it wasn't a Cooper. I'd also recommend chrome line interior and multifunction steering wheel (which also adds cruise control). Both great options for adding a bit of luxury inside the cabin.
Great design. Great car. And built in Britain. What more could you want?
Purchased this car to replace an awful Renault Megane 18 months ago so thought I'd post a review.
As our daughter was learning to drive at the time we chose the Mini One due to Insurance costs but would have preferred the Cooper.
It looks great in metallic black and we added the pepper pack and superb value heated sports seats which were a godsend last winter.
As this is a second car it is only used locally and for shorter trips but has good handling, decent pace and fits four adults easily.
Havent needed to take the car back to the dealer so far and it will have its first service in the spring. The controls are a bit fussy and fiddly but it looks great both inside and out and residuals still excellent which is one of the reasons for chosing a mini.
Other daughter will be 17 in 12 months so will be keeping for probably two more years which is fine as we thoroughly enjoy the car.
I must say that to criticise the mini because of a small boot is truly rediculous!! Did you not open the boot before buying?
having come from a VW R32 golf i was waiting to find such a great big differance but wow its brill. I was putting in £70 a week in the golf in the mini £20 its comfortable the boot is fine and the driving is just as thrilling as my old R32. Would i recomend a mini one you bet. My golf cost me 30k and was just trouble from day one ended up taking vw to court the mini dealer fantastic go on buy one you wont look back
I have the standard take up model which I love as I'm 18 with a brand new car. This car is perfect in many ways as I can afford it by only working…
I bought this car a year ago after watching the video on here, and reading a few reviews on the car. My wife really liked the car so we bought it.…
