I own a 1.3 with AMT transmission
It's good on the road for the price with nice nippy handling and cruise control that zips along on the motorway nicely. nice to have air con, alloys, fog lights, steering wheel controls and cruise controls all rolled in at 1 fixed price.
down sides - the engine is noisy when idling, making a taptaptap sound and the AMT transmission isn't great, lurching as the car ponderously changes gear. I suppose that's the price you pay for manual fuel efficiency in an automatic gearbox these days.
This is my other half car 58 reg ex demonstrator pre face lift model from Oakley Bishop Auckland, had the car serviced but can't comment on the cost as it came with 3yrs free servicing which was completed while I waited only comment I can make was the receptionist was too busey talking to her friend on the phone to acknowledge me and the garage manager attened to me I was offered a coffee which the receptionist was requested to attend to while the car was serviced I am still waiting Iam used to Skoda Stardards of Service Impressed with the amount of space for a small car 4,6ft adults have plenty of head and leg room, but would have liked more crash protection as standard, boot is small but the rear seat can be moved forward so no problem fitting in the weekley shop The car is used to commute to work most of the time mainly short, stop start journys and about 10 mile radias of home The A Pillars at the front cause a blind spot, choppy ride on poor roads, the body panel fit is good although the paint seems to scratch easily (Luna Silver) the internal plastics are a bit naff and hard but nothing as fallen off and are durable, When driving my calf catches the drinks holder on the front consule which is a bit annoying and the seats are like park benches, the 1.1 3cylinder sounds off putting when first started but once on the move is very willing and able to keep up with national speed limits on faster roads, gear change is a bit notchy, Personal note I think the whe
I have had my Colt for a couple of years now and on the whole it's a pretty good little car. It's cheap to run and insure, is quite stylish and equally comfortable with town driving as well as on the motorway. I have the 1.1 and it is surprising how much you get from it, the car can fly down a motorway quite happily at 80+ and the handling is good, just never attempt to overtake on a hill. One of the best features of the car is the ability to fold down the seats or remove them altogether giving you the space of a decent sized estate. Also the ride in the back is quite smooth and comfortable with lots of leg and head room. On the downside there are only a few things with the car that quite seriously let it down. Firstly the turning circle is very poor for an urban run-a-round and you will find parking it to be tricky on occasion. Secondly the noise inside the cabin is rather loud which is no doubt not helped by the third and most annoying thing about the car. The interior trim especially its plastics are very poor. The dashboard feels flimsy and although quite stylish is let down by ill-fitting mouldings compared with other cars in its range. Although it is fun to drive, reliable and you do feel safe, the stated negative points will affect your appreciation of the car. It's is however a perfect choice for a young persons first car due to its stylish looks, good mpg, excellent safety points and ability to comfortably carry rear passengers.
A bargain with all the mod cons
Great value for money with air con, power steering, cruise control, steering wheel audio controls, mp3 compatible CD player with audio jack and heated side window mirrors
Likes:
Price Heated window mirrors with auto timer off - really handy Good viability - good seat height alterations (I am 4ft 11" so need something that I can actually reach the pedals in!) Very Nippy - Pulls away extremely fast Emergency lights come on when you break very hard - nice to warn those behind you! Keyless deadlocking - (don't worry you can use your key on the passengers side if the battery is flat!) Great wipers! - with optional timers Front fog lights - very beneficial and often not standard fit on many cars. Cleartech has £35 a year road tax 3 years free breakdown cover
Let downs:
No real let downs for me considering the price Had a few problems with reverse gear - however it may just be me in a new car Boot isn't that big, but the fold down back seats give lots of room Insurace group 5 - not that high but was allot higher than I was expecting
Others have said it is not particularly quiet to drive, however, I have not found it to be loud at all.
The start stop of the cleartec does take a little getting used to, but saying this I have not found it annoying, in fact surprised at how little difference it makes to driving.
Overall, very comfortable nippy drive, looks fantastic and comes with everything you could ask for an
