For Powerful 2.2-litre turbodiesel gives the Outlander a decent turn of pace, and the car will do almost 50mpg if you’re willing to take it easy. The seven-seat cabin is roomy, and the split tailgate aids practicality.

Against The extra power of the engine and the absence of four-wheel drive means the Outlander suffers a few traction issues. Also, despite the fact it’s only two-wheel drive, CO2 emissions are only 2g/km below those of the 4WD model.

The 2.2-litre turbodiesel is a good companion for the Outlander, being punchy and reasonably refined. However, the cost benefits of choosing a two-wheel drive model aren’t great, and it doesn’t drive as well as the four-wheel-drive version.

Buyer's notes

Target Price team says:

The Mitsubishi Outlander has much in common with the Citroen C-Crosser and Peugeot 4007, but where it differs is in offering a two-wheel-drive version that has better economy and lower emissions than the other models.

While we're on the subject of saving money, consider Mitsubishi’s Service Plan that will cover all the scheduled services throughout the first three years of the car's life, ensuring that they are performed by Mitsubishi-trained technicians, using genuine Mitsubishi parts.

You can also include the cost of the Service Plan in your finance, and the plan can be transferred to a new owner if you sell your vehicle.

Scheduled services include only parts defined by the manufacturer such as filters, oil, consumables and labour. The service schedule does not include wear and tear items such as brake pads and discs, clutches and tyres.
