I used to have an Outlander Warrior 57 plate but swapped to the GX2 this year. I have to disagree completely with the two star rating Whatcar give it and suspect homework has not been done.
What other car gives 45mpg (measured), 125mph+; 0-60 ~8 seconds for £22k? You try and find one. . . If you do find something that matches the performance it will cost a lot more. Just so that you dont think I'm totally biased I do agree it could have more toys. I would have expected fog lamps and the steering wheel mounted radio controls - and let Mitsubishi know I thought they were tight.
The GX2 came with taller 215/70 tyres (the Warrior had 235/55). Upside is GX2 is better in mud, downside its isn't quite as taut on the road. I do use this off road and it is better than you might expect.
Inside theres heaps of space and the leg room in the middle of the back seats must be class leading; you need a Range Rover to match this legroom.
Was torn between this and the BMW X3 (X5 too big for my wife!). You get a lot more for your money with this than the BMW, even though i prefer the ride of the BMW better. That saying, this is very comfortable, pulls well, the 2 litre was flat as a pancake, so we went for the newer 2.2. The diamond has all the bells and whistles, which ticks my boxes! Havent towed our caravan yet with it, but disappointed with the economy, managed to get into the 40's once, but have to keep to 50mph with very light right foot. We tend to get 31-35mpg, which is ok i guess, but would have liked better. Second row of seats has limited headroom for taller passangers, but very handy having the third row for emergency use. Going to get this chipped next year, but only owned for 3 months so far, will wait til get used to it properly so can compare differences better.
Overall a comfortable, nice looking car that my wife enjoys driving and feels comfortable and safe in, worth the extra running costs in my opinion. Rolls a bit on the corners but its not a bmw, and think only to be expected with ground clearance and size. Very pleased.
Had the car for two years now and it has been great family transport. The boot space is enormous and the pair of occasional pop up seats are great , if only for kids. servicing has been average and the fit and finish are mostly rattle free after some hard family use and camping trips. Only gripes so far have to be the 2wd function which is pointless as the front wheels buck and jerk around and have little or no grip when accelerating hard and the lack of low down muscle which make pulling out of junctions from standstill an art form with the unresponsive nature of the 2.0 d-id engine. All in all good family transport and good in the snow!
Bought this car new to tow a double horse trailer and two horses weighing below the 2000kg it is specified to tow.
It is useless on moderate hills especially if you have to do a hill start. The only way to get it moving is to slip the clutch which burns badly. Clutch won't last 6 months at that rate. Tried to get garage to give me a refund as it's not fit for purpose. They have checked it out and said nothing wrong.
They came to see it tow and with it empty said not to put horse in as it's not going to tow up our drive. Recommended a chip upgrade and still won't do it with out burning the clutch. Spent lots on extras and expected to take nearly £5000 loss on it. Having to go through Solicitor now to try and get money back.
Would not recommend this car to anyone who wishes to tow livestock.
