For The diesel engine is strong and the Note's ride is comfortable. There's plenty of space and flexibility inside to keep a family happy.

Against There's no wheel reach adjustment and this engine sends to much vibration into the cabin. Visia trim is stingy in terms of equipment.

This diesel engine in this Nissan Note isn't the most refined, but it's strong and economical. Acenta trim is the best value.

Buyer's notes

Target Price team says:

The Nissan Note might look small from the outside, but there's lots of space on the inside.

All that room won't set you back much, either, because the Note is cheap to buy compared with its rivals. The petrol models are cheapest, starting with the naturally aspirated 1.2-litre, followed by the supercharged 1.2. Even the supercharged petrol has to be worked quite hard, although it remains quiet and smooth.

The 1.5-litre diesel is a strong engine, but it's noisy and you feel too much vibration through the steering wheel and pedals.

Every Note gets six airbags, Bluetooth, cruise control, front electric windows and a radio/CD player with USB input. We'd go for Acenta trim, which adds air-con, rear electric windows, a multi-position boot shelf and 15-inch alloy wheels. Acenta Premium gives you automatic lights and wipers, climate control and a touch-screen sat-nav system, so is worth going for if you want lots of toys.
