    My car

Been hiring out a selection of diesel hatchbacks,in the hope of deciding on a new car. After a Volvo C30,new Citroen C4.kia Ceed,Peugeot 207 and Peugeot 308, the clear winner is the 308 in S trim. Pound for pound this is a seriously good car, offering a better ride and economy than all except the C 4, which it beats on price. The Kia is crude,in comparison.

    My car

I ran one of these models as a company car for apx 3 months and overall i would say i was impressed, the fuel economy was the highlight returning almost 700miles to a tank of diesel despite my heavy right foot. The spec levels are also good considering it is the base model. Overall i would say a good car if your on a budget and economy is your thing.

I’ve owned my 308 SE 1.6HDi from new (Apr 2008). It’s now got 32000 miles on the clock. I love it. It has never let me down and I love driving it. Since its introduction reviewers have criticised its handling, and they consistently mention this. I think they plagiarize each others work – nor do they own the cars for long enough to really get to know them. I also own a 2009 Focus (also 1.6HDi) and the 308 is every bit as sure footed as the Focus. The 308 is marginally more economic than the Focus (63.7mpg over its life so far). The 308 is more refined… quieter with a better finished interior. The glass roof is great – especially for back seat passengers on long runs. If only it had the Ford heated windscreen and DAB radio.

    My car

I have owned the 1.6 automatic for a year. It is roomy inside and there are no problems for passengers in the back with either knee room or the sloping roof. I would say that the engine has a sluggish response to the accelerator but the power steering doesn't make it particularly heavy to drive. Given the 70mph speed limit this is not such a problem that would necessarily count against it. I live in Spain and have driven over all sorts of roads without problems and it is high enough not to give too much jerk in the back when going over speed bumps! On the whole, the only issue I have had is the radiator water draining out faster than expected and the screws in the sun visor falling out.
