Against The cabin’s starting to look a little dated, there could be more luxury and safety kit provided and it’s a little pricey to run compared with some competitors.

The Boxster is one of the best roadsters money can buy. The S version, with its larger, more powerful engine, is a very popular choice. As brilliant as it is, though, we’d still recommend the basic 2.9 version, because it's still plenty fast enough to take your breath away.

Thanks to the Porsche personalisation programme, you can specify a car almost entirely to your wishes and which will be hand-built by the company's own craftsmen. Likewise, if you want to, you can also collect your car from the factory in Germany, with a tour of the company's museum thrown in. Plus, anyone who buys a new Boxster is eligible for a course at the Driving Experience Centre at Silverstone as part of the buying package.
