Seriously under rated car. All the reviews seem to rubbish this car but try it yourself its not bad. The Gen 2 persona saloon is a very cheap car, which for a reasonably sized automatic is quite frugal ( i average about 42 mpg mixed driving, on a run i get over 50mpg). The car handles well and looks good. I bought the car 2nd hand at 3 yrs old when its lost most of its value, think its a great 2nd hand car, maybe not so good for 1st owner. Most reviews are based on the early release 2004 Gen 2 hatchback and state the interior to be of very poor quality plastics. The Gen 2 persona saloon was first on sale in 2008 and had a revised interior. Interior style is ok, not most modern but really not bad, plastics and quality of trim arent bad, bit of a mix really. But i find it very comfortable to drive. The Gen2 persona also comes with the updated version of the engine which is much for flexible than earlier version, no flat spot at low revs, and is quite a bit more economical. So to some up, i have found the car very cheap to run, was very cheap to purchase, has been very reliable, and looks quite nice. I wish magazines would test cars when they come out or are revised rather than just copy old reports from older versions, the review on this site says 'no glove box', wrong, thats the old hatchback model, the saloon first sold in 2008 and all feature a revised interior with a glove box. Also a new engine for a much better drive, more economical to.
I have owned a 1.4tsi petrol for 2 years, and am VERY satisfied. Get past the utilitarian looks, and it lives up to its name as the best small family…
Being a mum of two who has had 3 X5's the last being a very nice 40d M Sport, the decision to go to a smaller car was one which did fill me with dread…
