Renault turned up very late to the mini-SUV party, but the Koleos is a reasonable effort - thanks in part to sharing much of its chassis with the Nissan X-Trail.
In fact, the Koleos is such a good off-road performer that on the road - where it will spend most of its time - it feels wobbly, lurching from corner to corner with very little body controlThis means it’s comfortable most of the time, but is prone to bouncing along at motorway speeds, and it’s not much fun to drive.
Still, quality is good, with soft-touch plastics in the important places, and it’s well equipped. Boot space is quite poor, as is rear leg space, but there’s a full 70 litres of cubbyholes in the cabin.
It’s available in 2WD and 4WD, with two diesel engines rated at 148bhp and 173bhp, but running costs are relatively high.
