Renault Megane Hatchback 1.6 dCi 130 GT Line TomTom S/S 5dr Review

For GT Line Meganes have sportier looks, dual-zone climate control and a parking camera. This engine has all the performance you’ll ever need, and it averages over 70mpg.

Against It’s an expensive car to buy, and GT Line trim brings lowered suspension that makes the ride distinctly firm.

We’d avoid the GT Line trim because it pushes up the price and compromises comfort.

Buyer's notes

Target Price team says:

The Renault Megane isn’t remarkable in any one area, but it’s a decent all-rounder and there’s a big range to choose from.

Even the entry-level Expression+ model comes with air-conditioning, Bluetooth, a USB socket and stability control, although you may be tempted to upgrade to the Dynamique TomTom, which adds automatic lights and wipers, cruise control and satellite-navigation. We’d stay away from the range-topping GT Line Tom Tom model, though; it’s expensive and comes with lowered suspension that makes the ride distinctly firm.

Of the engines, the 1.2-litre turbo petrol, 109bhp 1.5 diesel and 129bhp 1.6 diesel are all worth considering.

Renault has been making a big noise about improving quality and reliability, but things still need to get better. The brand hasn’t fared that well in our most recent Reliability Supertests or JD Power Customer Satisfaction Surveys.

First of all I'll admit to not being a big fan of French cars, and I found the previous Megane particularly unappealing to look at and sit in.…
