For Thanks to the stop/start technology, this version can return nearly 50mpg. TR specification brings a good spread of equipment, including rear parking sensors and Bluetooth.
Against Performance is only okay in town, and subdued elsewhere. Plus, the engine is noisy at more than 2000rpm.
A decently specified Auris with all of the kit you’ll need for everyday motoring and a couple of extra trim flourishes. Don’t bank on going anywhere quickly, however.
The Auris range starts with a 1.3 petrol that features start/stop for low emissions and fuel consumption, although the 1.4 turbodiesel engine is also very frugal. Most economical of all, though, is the hybrid HSD model.
The 1.6 petrol is lively, but like the smaller petrol engine, it requires plenty of revs, which can become tiresome, especially as the Auris’s general refinement isn’t as good as in some.
Basic models have all the necessities, but it’s the TR models that offer a large amount of kit for your money - and are our favourites. However, if you want something sporty, there's an SR model at the top of the range, unique to the 1.6 engine and the five-door body.
