If you can first of all get over the fact that this is not a German car (and therefore will not score highly with What Car journalists and all those sales reps in gray suits)the 159 is a wonderful piece of engineering and a superb car to own. Yes it isn't as powerful or as good to handle as the BMW 3 series equivalent, but then it is so much more individual and appealing to drive. Unlike other readers I have had my car for six months with absolutely no problems whatsoever. In the same time I have had so many people comment on what a nice car it is that I have lost count. People even gather round it in car parks just to look at the beauty of it. When has that ever happened to a BMW or Audi (R8 excepted of course)?
its no good at all. i hate this machine it is going back to italy as fast as possible. dont ever buy one they are useless buy a perodua nipper instead. that jeremy ckarkson says its good it is rubbish
I was delighted when Alfa PR called and asked if I'd like a two-day extended test drive in the 159 1.9JTD.
The first thing I noticed was the quality of fixtures and fittings and overall feeling that this new model is alot more solid than my current 156.
The engine is gutsy and offers great economy and the Lusso version on loan was loaded with kit: parking sensors, electric folding mirrors, climate control and leather.
Sadly for the 159 the interior storage in the 156 is far superior and my Veloce, even though you feel every imperfection in the road while driving it, is a better driving car and a lot more fun to push hard.
When the people at Alfa told me the car cost £23k I thought it was April Fools day. It's a great car, they are exclusive, people admire them and other Alfa drivers will let you out at junctions, but to be honest the 159 just isn’t worth £23k.
There are just too many flaws, the operation of the cruise control being one. Best wait a year or three and bag a bargain like I did.
This is my first Alfa and, my god, what a masterpiece of auto engineering she is.
If you have not driven an Alfa then you're not a driver, you're just down outright boring and really have no idea when it comes to driving a vehicle with soul.
Believe you me, I made that mistake for 20 years of my driving life!
The 159 is, without doubt, the best saloon on the market that money can buy, no matter what the critics say.
I have wasted the last 20 years of my driving life with BMWs and Audis, but never again.
Thank you Alfa Romeo for restoring passion into driving.
