An update on my earlier entry dated 20/11/06
The car has just had its 18,000 mile service. I have not been required to top up the engine oil during this time, the only top up required was the windscreen washer fluid!
The ten months of ownership have been 100% trouble free and the car continues to impress. The 159 is a high quality product that drives well, looks fantastic and maintains individuality.
Well done Alfa.
This car is beautifully styled, and different to the usual BMW 3 Series/Mercedes C-Class and Audi A4 - the 159 is very comfortable and does not have the bone-shaking ride of certain Alfas I have previously driven. It is also very easy to drive.
The 2.4-litre diesel engine is very quiet and smooth, and has the typical growling warble at high revs. Mid-range and high-range performance is phenomenal, but lower speed perfomance is surprisingly sluggish. According to the trip computer, I got 32mpg on my mixed town and country test drive.
The 159 is very well screwed together - like a late 1990s VW. The switchgear even looks similiar to that found in a VW MkIV Golf derivative. I really hope that Alfa Romeo has got the build quality and reliability issues right with this car - if so, they are really onto a winner...
