Fabulous little car: great to look at, runs really well.
Engine can be noisy especially at acceleration and higher speeds.
Plenty of room for a small family car.
This car is lovely to look at, a reasonable drive, but riddled with problems.
Our local Audi dealer has promised us that ours is the only one they've ever had back with problems.
The fact that it has been back in due to loss of power and the engine management light continually coming on should make up for that!
If there are 50 A2s in the area, that would probably equate to one visit per car.
I'm not kidding - this thing has literally come to a halt while pulling out of our three-year-old's nursery, died completely while on a weekend away to the New Forest and limped home from work on many occassions.
I could give you a list of things that have been fixed/replaced as long as my arm, but it would take me the rest of the week to write it down!
The 90PS diesel engine is noisy under acceleration in lower gears but reasonably quiet when cruising. This is a rocket compared to the 75PS version, which is incredibly slow despite being made of plastic and aluminium. That said, it isn't really a driver's car.
First to second gearchange is slow and clunky but other changes are OK. Handling is acceptable. It is not nearly as economical as it appears on paper - no matter how we drive it, we never get more than 430 miles on an eight-gallon fill-up.
What else? Oh, yes - there's poor visibility past the A-pillar and horrendous servicing costs - with variable servicing, it only needs it every two years, but it costs you twice as much as any other small car!
For some reason mine is on its third set of rear discs in only 29,000 miles. I say there is a fault, but Audi disagrees and says its quite normal!
Despite these issues, it's not a bad car.
What a beautiful car to look with lots of admiration. The cessation of production nearly puts it in a collector's item lot.
However, a monopoly of software means that only Audi may troubleshoot the engine, which means high running costs. When your engine management fault light comes on, do not worry as this means that it does not like being run on minimum fuel.
The value, beauty, engine size of 1.4 are big advantages, but Audi garage costs together with poor customer satisfaction is a big, big issue. Get a very good Audi mechanic if you must buy one!
