    My car

I have a 15-month-old A2 SE and, since having it, I have had nothing but problems.

When it went in for its first service, they told me that I had cracked the window-washer tubes and they needed replacing. Well, that was the start of the problems. I have now had the radio, light switch and ash tray replaced, the rear heated window repaired, and the clutch looked at, and that's to name a few.

However, the problems are now starting to become bigger. In the past month, the alarm has started to play up, with either the car alarm not turning itself on or the alarm sounding for a fair while.

This weekend has also seen the engine warning lights start to come on. The car went back to the garage yet again. I should say that this was happening once every six weeks and I was not impressed.

They said that it was a fault with one of the switches and that they had fixed it and it shouldn't be a problem. Two hours later it broke again and I had to get the RAC out to it. They fixed the problem and stated that it was either fixed or that there was wiring fault. That lasted a day, with the car in the garage again this morning.

The drive is also hair-raising at times, especially when it is hit by a gust of wind.

    My car

I bought this car to save money because I drive 25,000 miles a year.

I knew that I needed a diesel, so I thought I may as well get one that will do 65mpg, and the A2 is one of the few that will do that. I wanted a quality car that would hold up well in value when I come to sell it, that would have the appeal and would have a quality feel inside the cabin.

I have owned two previous Audis (A4 and A6) and chose them above the BMW or Mercedes, despite having also owned a Merc.

The little A2 feels just as high in quality as the A6 I owned. It is serene to drive. I was worried that the little 1.4 TDI engine might not last the pace on the motorway. How wrong I was! It is the 90bhp model and virtually flies down the road. However, because of the ride, I find myself driving more slowly now and arriving in a much better mood (the climate control is excellent). I probably average 75-80mph on my motorway journeys and am getting 62-65mpg, not bad at all.

The plus points are the high quality, the fuel efficiency, the serene but firm ride, the looks, and the fact that it puts a smile on your face.

The minus points are only two seats in the back, the merely average stereo, there's no armrest, and it has a clunky gearbox and a noisy engine.

Overall, I'm well pleased with it.

    My car

I picked up the A2 TDI at a Frankfurt Airport rental desk last Friday and my initial thoughts were: "This will be useless on the autobahn."

How wrong could I have been? Within 10 miles, I was totally converted to a truly superb little car. One of the first things that one notices is that this car has bags of torque and is ridiculously willing to push on at ever increasing speeds.

Over the next four days I travelled 875 mostly autobahn miles and was shocked to find that the A2 TDI will happily sit at 90-100mph all day and still return 45mpg!

The interior is surprisingly large and pleasantly subdued. The stereo was quite excellent although I singularly failed to find a radio station worth listening to as I criss-crossed Germany!

Last night I hopped into my own Renault Scenic II 1.6 and was truly disappointed at how gutless it felt in comparison to the Audi. Now if I could just find a way to get rid of my young family.

My mother is in the market for a new car this summer and the A2 TDI will definitely be my vote if she asks my opinion.

    My car

Its 45mpg is not brilliant. Tiny petrol tank. It has adequate performance normally, and plenty of space inside, although door pockets are poor. The quality is lower than other Audis - with squeaky low-rent plastics - but it all looks very good.

All controls work well. The seats are for narrow people. The ride is bouncy but not uncomfortable.
