    My car

The A3 is a mixed bag for me. On the road I find it generally pleasant, but the suspension can be nervous (over sprung & under-damped, perhaps?) and our car suffers from understeer when driving hard. However the engine is punchy and economical, despite the 6-speed gearbox which, despite the 'on paper' advantages, seems not to translate well on the road.

It is a company car, but one that was purchased through the a dealership. Having previously driven a Saab 9-3 Aero Sport Saloon, the Audi experience leaves a lot to be desired. Our enquiries regarding contract hire were met with stony silence and when collecting, my wife was advised that she need not run it in. The owners handbook is clear that this is not the case and one wonders what the warranty position might have been had we taken the dealers advice!

The cabin is well made and pleasant (although nowhere near the 9-3) but can rattle from some trim panels. I would also suggest prospective buyers try the sports seats for comfort; long trips leave me (average man, not overweight, runner) with pins and needles in my legs due to the firm bolsters.

Overall I would suggest a careful look before buying; many friends feel that Audi is a byword for quality and service, but in our experience at least, this has not always been the case.

    My car

The diesel engine can be a bit rattly on start up. The car is a bit bland but very competent.

    My car

I have had poor customer service from the Audi dealer.

I had the car a day and the climate control broke and had to be replaced. The front fan also broke and had to be replaced. The Audi dealer had the car for a week.

I asked for my money back and was told by the sales manager there was no way. I never even got a free service from them.

Two months on and the DSG box is playing up in reverse. It's very jerky and stalls on hills, and when you put it into drive, it's jerky. I'm not very happy and feel 20 grand should buy a good quality car not a very poor quality car.

I'll never buy from the Audi dealer again. It was the worst customer servive I have ever had.

However, it will be a nice car to drive when it's fixed, I hope.

    My car

It's the second A3 I've owned, a mark 1 being the first. It's simply excellent all round. The long service intervals are excellent, as are the fuel economy and performance. Ride and handling are top notch as is the reassuring build quality. Very, very satisfied.
