I have driven his car for 3 1/2 years covering 93k miles. Prior to this had a 1.9 TDi 115bhp Avant
Stunning car beauty to look at - mine is in Mugello Blue Special RS6 colour with loads of extras.
Heated seats, sports leather seats, Bose & DVD Satnav + star wheels + + + I am now putting it up for sale and looking to buy a 2005 Allroad...
MPG of 45mpg over 93k has been amazing and still only on 3rd set of tyres... starts first time every time ..
This is our 5th A6 Avant and is a '51 TDi tiptronic allroad but couldn't see one listed. There have been a few failures but all covered by Audi's approved warranty without any hassle. It isn't the most economical around town but was never designed for commuting. I bought it because I do 5000 miles of pottering about. Around town it's consistently 22mpg, however on the motorway at 85mph with the cruise on its 38mpg.
The A6 Avant is bigger inside than the 5 series: we did try the the Volvo XC70 but it didn't make us smile. Its been excellent in the snow and in the mud.
You can get an excellent warranty for sensible money from warranty direct (no, i don't work for them); its comprehensive and well priced.
Of all the A6 Avants we have owned this is our favourite. It is true the belt and tensioner service is expensive (£700 plus) but our local Audi dealer was willing to negotiate. The advantage however is that it is much less to insure than the petrol version.
Our previous A6 Avants were: 2.3, 2.0SE, 2.8 Quattro 2.4SE 7 Seater.
They never broke down and only ever needed batteries around 100K pads, oil and tlc. The 2.4 was incredibly quiet and very smooth.
Would we buy another one? More than likely - just not in fern/highland green.
I bought my 05-05 plate sport, multitronic model as one of the few remaining cars available as the new Avant was not on sale with the 2.0tdi at the time. I have not been at all disapointed with this car, it does what you ask.
30 months down the line and with 30k on the clock, it does a few company miles, carries the family & dogs and tows a 1.3 tonne caravan with hassle free reliability.
Finish & materials are as good as ever (previously had 2002 a4 avant). The cvt (multitronic) gearbox is a dream in city traffic or m/way crusing. Highly recommended for this sort of lifestyle!
I previously had a 02 plate Audi A6 1.9TDi saloon. Best car I ever owned. I changed it to the 2.5Tdi Avant as my family grew. The main disappointment was that it was slower than the 1.9Tdi (130) and returned a greatly reduced mpg. I went from 52-55mpg to 37-40mpg. Just after buying the car one of the rocker covers went leaving me with a £600 bill. Just recently, the mechanical fuel pump went leaving me with a £1,200 bill. If it wasn't for my local garage, these costs could have been much higher. On the plus side, the two removable seats in the boot have been a godsend. Even with these in place, the boot gives a very large usuable space. The car is immensly comfortable, even on long journeys. I have put 30,000 miles on the clock in six months and it has been effortless. As a previous posting stated, the cassette radio has to go eventually.

I've had 6 VWs now including this one and it is a mixed bag. In no particular order the economy is poor despite the FSI badging and in town never…
Why is there so much whining about the rear sets? It's small - it's called a "mini" (hint). It didn't get any smaller after you bought it, so deal…
